LONDON, Novemebr 8,
Constantine, the West Indian bowler, in a book published to-day, deplores the recent atmosphere in the tests, with the- bodyline, as the outcome of the win at any cost policy. He says that if he packed a leg field to his bowling, it would reduce cricket to a farce. Hobbs, Hammond and Jardin-e all complained of las’bowling at Manchester in 1928, yet the West Indies players did not grumble when Larwood, at Lords in 1928, gave them an unforgetable dose of bumpers.
He adds: “When the .English team was in the West Indies in 1930, ther© was much trouble on both sides over bumpers .The English manager, Mallittj- told me before one test, the Englishmen had the impression I was bowling at them, and he appealed for spiring use of short pitchers, but Voce immediately caused our batsmen to duck, therefore 1 retaliated.”
