BOWES AND LARWOOD IN FORM.

The weather yesterday was fine and cool, while the wicket was in splendid condition for the resumption, of the cricket match, England versus an Australian team. England resumed their first innings with the score at 238 runs for eight wickets Allen (12) opened brightly. He hit three fours off Ironmonger’s second over, and added twenty runs in ten minutes. Duckworth (3) was content to hang on. He battel for an extra twentyfive minutes without scoring. Allen batted splendidly in the latter stages and scored 48. He was bat--1 ting for one hundred and ten minutes, and hit seven boundaries. Nash, the bowler, showed better pace than on Friday Australia commenced their first innings at one o’clock. The runs were coming only slowly. Soon after lunch Woodfull received a. nasty blow on the clmst from Larwood, who was making the ball fly. Woodfull was in for seventy-five minutes and scored 18 runs, Bradman mad 9 some remarkably clever pulls off Bowes’ “bumpers.” Bradman, however, was too reckless at times, both in the stealing of runs, wherein he had several narrow escapes, and in pulling off balls. Bradman lost his wicket through attempting such a a hit. He scored 36, and batted 46 minutes. He hit four boundaries.

O’Brien, who also made 36, was solid,, but neat in his play. He batted for one hundred and fifty-five minutes. He hit one four. The first three wickets fell for, 131 runs. Bowes was then bowling very accurately, with Larwood maintaining a good pace.

Lee gave a bright display for thirtysix minutes, scoring 28, in which there were two fours, but the bowlers' were definitely on top throughout. Larwood bowled thirteen overs, ,and Bowes 15 overs, including two maidens. Allen did not bowl, owing to a slight strain. The attendance was fifty-three thousand nine hundred and sixteen.
