FOR LAND RECLAMATION. CITY V. HARBOUR BOARD. WELLINGTON, February 29. . The big reclamation work at Thorndon was the subject of a compensation claim for £105,000, brought in the Supreme Court to-day by the Wellington City Corporation against the Wellington Harbour Board, the Crown and New Zealand Railways Board. It was claimed that approximately seven acres 'had been 'taken" * and the' Corporation was entitled to compensation at the iratei of £15,000 an acre. His Honour, the ‘Chief Justice, Sir Michael Myers, presided, and associated with ihim, as assessors ,were Sir Walter (Stringer and Mr J, M, Dale. The City Solicitor and Assistant C'ty Solicitor appeared for the claimant. Two counsel appeared for the Crown and the Railways Board, and one for the (Harbour Board, Compensation is claimed under the Thorndon Reclamation Act 1921-22, for all the loss arising out of taking of the lands at Thordon, and tiie construction of public works, authorised by that Act. It was set out that the Council bad been deprived of the use of the lands in which, by virtue of Thorndon Esplanade Act, 1891, it had an estate or interest, as trustee for the people of Wellington, as a place for public recreation, and as a foreshore street and promenade. ’ ' The whole of the morning was'occupied by the city solicitor addressing the court.
