HOTEL ROBBERY
THEFT AT AUCKLAND. MONEY AND JEWELLERY TAKEN (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, February 29. An audacious tbei't vva,s discovered yesterday at the Alexandra Hotel, in the city. While the licensee, E. H. (Jucksey, slept, . a thief entered hie bedroom, stole the keys from the bedroom table, and then went downstairs, unlocked the doors of the bar, opened the safe and all the tills, and departed with about £7O in money, and jewellery, worth £SO, which had been lodged with the licensee by relatives,, for safe keeping. It is believed that he thief hid himself behind a curtain in the children’s bedroom, which is opposite the licensee’s bedroom. BURGLARY ALLEGED. OVER £IOO IN GOODS TAKEN. WELLINGTON, February 29. Arrested in the city yesterday afternoon, Richard Ryan, aged 32, taxidriver, Charles Partington, aged 31, a mechanic, and William Wilson, aged 25, a photographer, were charged today with breaking and entering the shop of Hazlewood and Company, Upper Hut, and stealing goods valued at £lO9 4s 9d. In opposing bail, Detective-Sergeant ltevell said that there were hundreds of pounds involved. He alleged that the men had carried out a series of burglaries the night before last and 'yesleitdasy, rj’.di )they -were arrested'. Quiet a lot of property had been recovered, he said, and there was still a lot of property to be found. For that reason, he must oppose bail. Bail was refused. William Aubrey, aged 66, a carpenter, was charged with receiving cigarettes valued at 14s 6d, knowing tnorn to have been dishonestly obtained. He was also remanded till March 5. Bail of £IOO was allowed.
