MURDER CHARGE

AGAINST GEORGE RAMEKA.

AUCKLAND, July 16.

At the murder trial this afternoon, evidence was given by Mrs Keesing, with whom the deceased and her daughter had boarded.

Mrs Keesing said that oil the morning ot the tragedy, she heard a screech from upstairs. She took up a flatiron and then rushed to Mrs Johnson's door, which would not open. "Soon the door opened, and the accused met me at the door with a knife in his hand,’’ said witness, “and I lifted the iron and struck him. The knife fell out of his hand. He made a grab at me, and I rushed out to the balcony, screeching. The accused rushed past, and I sent the. iron flying after him. There was blood on the accused’s hand.” Witness continued that she then went to Mrs Johnson,' and found that she was dead.” , ‘‘’You should be commended for the pluck you have shown!” said the ■Magistrate. Details of the post-mortem examination were given by Dr D. X. W. Murray, who said that death had been caused by haemorrhage of the lungs, following on a penetrating wound of the fight lung. The wounds could have been made by the knife produced. Mr Noble; It could have been done bv a homicidal maniac? Dr Murray: A man in a frenzy, There were thirteen wounds. The body was slashed all over.

The hearing was adjourned till tomorrow.
