HIGHWAYS BOARD

QUARTERLY REVIEW. (By Telegraph —Per Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 17. The Highways Board reports that the motor spirit imported for three months to June 30th. was fifteen and a-half million gallons, nearly twenty per cent, less than the quarter last year. The tire tax receipts were £22,135 against £29,300. Apart from borrowed money tne Board’s total income from all sources for 1930 31 was £1,768,000, of which £300,000 was transferred to the construction account and £1,384,000 was spent from the revenue fund. This included £219,000 paid to local authorities 'for subsidies on rates. The nett expenditure on construction was £711,000 of which fifty-seven per cent, went in the North Island anrl forty-three ■per cent, in the South Island.
