TRIBUTE COAL

A MYSTERY TELEGRAM.

WESTPORT, July 17. Considerable mystery surrounds a telegram road at Denniston Miners Union meeting on Wednesday night, stating the watersiders had been instructed to lift the embargo on Cascade and Charming Creek coal. Following a denial in the morning papers by Mr Roberts, of the Alliance of Labour, that a telegram had beer, sent exhaustive enquiries were made this morning. Several who attended th e Union meeting .state definitely tlmt a telegram was read by Mr A. AY at by. President of the Union, and that the telegram was received by Mr Hayward. Mr Hayward flatly denies receiving the telegram. An official of the Union neither confirms or denies that a telegram was received. Other Union officials refuse to discuss the matter. From enquiries made there is no doubt a telegram was received as reported yesterday. There is no fresh development on the waterfront there being no response to a call for labour.
