ROSS LIME COMPANY

..At a meeting of Directors of the Ross Lime Co., Ltd., held at Greymouth on Saturday, 9th. inst., Mr J. .Mulcure (Chairman) reported a recent interview with Mr McGKivary, of the Agriculural Department, relative to the use of lime on farms lands, West Coast lands in particular. 1

From proved facts quoted by Mr McGiltlivary it would appear that, while all West Coast land responds to the use of lime in a marked degree, in the case of poor soils lime was simply indispensable, Satisfaction was expressed- at the early arrival of the Diesel engine which is now at the Ross works. Preparations for the installation of this plant are now being speeded up. • Until such time as this is completed, another Director Mr P. Ryder, kindjly offered the use of his tractor to replace that of Mr J. J. Mclntosh, which lias satisfactorily driven the crushing plant for some time past, Mr Mclntosh' having generously allowed the Coy. the use of his tractor until he can no longer manage his farm without it, Mr Ryder's offer was gratefully accepted. Mr Machu, manager of the Commercial Bank of Australia (Greymouth branch) being 1 -present, satisfactory banking arrangements were competed. 1

Appreciation was expressed at the support being accorded the company by farmers generally, and the fact that appreciative letters re the service given and the quality of the lime seemed to have entirely taken the place of the frequent comp]pints in the past, was considered to be a definite indication that progress really had commenced. July had. been a record mpntli for this period of the year, a number of orders being on hand and still coming in, so that prospects for the future seem very 'bright. . A steady output is being maintained and no effort is being spared to give satisfaction.
