AN HOTEL SENSATION

MAN WITH REVOLVER

AUCKLAND, May 13

A sensation was caused at Cargen Hotel on Sunday morning when a man aged 33 years, dressed in the full uniform of an army lieutenant, wearing many service decorations, sat down on a chair in a corridor on the fourth floor holding in his hand a holster containing a Web ley six-chamber seivice revolver, which later was found to ho fully loaded. The licensee, Lund, communicated with the police about 6 a.m. and Sergeant Clist and two constables arrived promptly. The licensee informed them the man was dangerous and suggested Clist should not approach him in his police unifoim. With the licensee’s dressing gown covering his regular apparel, Clist mid the licensee walked to where the man was still sitting in the chair and tried to move the man, who refused. “ f low am T to get to the bathroom if you don’t move?” asked the sergeant. “ You can step over me,” replied the man. After further unsuccessful effort to reason with the man the sergeant stepped over him keeping his eyes on the revolver. Suddenly the sergeant shot out one hand and grasped the weapon as the mail pulled it out of his holster, and was going to raise it. With his free hand Clist grasped the man by the throat and threw him. Two constables then, as pro-arranged, rushed in and offer a hard struggle the man was linndculfed. In court this-morning, the man Was charged with presenting a revolver at Sergeant Clist, and with unlawfully enrrving a revolver. Two doctors certified that the man was insane and lie was removed to the Mental Hospital,
