MONDAY, NOV. 21st. The Board met at S p.m. Present:—Messrs J. J. Breeze iClrairmnn). G. Davidson, W. Jelfries, T. W. Dull', K. A. Wells, 1.. 11. Morel. Apologies were made for Messrs Spiers and Meharry. The minutes were conliiined and outward correspondence approved. MOTION OF SYMPATHY. The Chairman moved that the Board expresses deep sympathy with Mr A. Clifton, a former valued member of the Board, in the sail loss lie had sustained by the death of his wife. Seconded by Mr Davidson and carried in silence, members standing. IN WAR I) CORRESPONDENCE. Front 11. M. Coulson, acknowledging letter of sympathy.—Received. From Airs Al. Holliday enclosing receipt for first instalment on account of purchase of her maternity home.— Received. From Dr Yalintino enquiring what action had been taken in reference to concessions for maintenance to Timber Workers’ Union members.—Received. It was resolved to reply that the Timber Workers’ Union had failed to reply to the offer of the Board. From same, stating that donations for ’Ninas cheer were not subject to subsidy.—Received. From same stating he was pleased to hear that the Board hail purchased the maternity home.—Received.

From Minister of Hospitals, Wellington. approving of purchase ol maternity home.—Received. From Hospitals Department, particulars of tuberculosis patients in the Dominion.—Received. From Public Trust Office, advising consideration of application for a loan of L’looo at 0 per cent. —Received.

From Public Trust Office, Greymouth. forwarding balance of claim for maintenance due in a deceased estate.—Received. From Westland County Council accepting notification of proposed loan ; no action.—Received. From Forest Service in reference to planting of native shrubs.—Received. Mr Davidson gave particulars of an area of 5 to 6 acres, which it was proposed to plant in Karaki and other shrubs for cattle feed. From Nurse Grant, acknowledging letter.—Received.

From Agnes Martin, applying for annual leave. —Received; left t) .Matron for attention. Front Ross Borough Council forwarding cheque for levy.—Received. Front G. Pamment, Ktintara. asking for valuation figures.—Received. Front Kuniarn Borough Council, enclosing levy.—Received. NOTICE OF AIOTION. The Chairman moved that application be made for a loan of £I,OOO for payment of the purchase of the maternity home in Hampden Street. Seconded bv Mr AY ells and carried. APPLICATION FOR MATRON. Only one application was received for the position of Alatron of Westland Hospital, from Miss M. S. Hunt, at present in charge of AVaiuta Cottage Hospital.

Aliss Hunt was appointed to the position. REPORTS. From Surgeon-Superintendent reporting on 30th September patients numbered 11. Admitted during October, 17 males. Iff iemalcs. Total treated, 33 males. 3(5 females—7-1. Discharged, cured lfi males, 10 females, relieved. 1 male, 1 female; died, 2 males, 2 females. Total discharged, 19 males, 15 females—39. Remaining in hospital, 31st Oct., 19 males, 17 females —30. Hi hospital for two months, 9 males, 7 females—lo.—Received. From House Committee fper Mr Davidson) reporting conditions at hospital were very satisfactory.—Received. From Treasurer reporting receipts £1571 Os 7< 1 ; payments £790 3s 3d : credit balance £25 IPs 2d.—Received. Accounts amounting to .CHS 5s 51 were passed for payment. In reference to Hospital Days it was resolved so as not to clash with the Wireless Appeal to postpone the Hospital Appeal till Dec. 10th anil lltli; a public meeting of helpers to he called for 28th. Nov. The next meeting was fixed for Dec. 12th. The Board rose at 9.15 p.m.
