The Council met at .5 p.m. Present—Messrs W. Jeffries (DeputyMayor in the Chair), D. J. Evans, J. King, T. W. Duff, E. AY. Keenan, A. It. Elcock, and Dr Teiebclinann. An apology was made for the absence ul the Mayor and Mr Armstrong, AIOTI OX OF SYMPATHY. Air Evans moved that the Council extend to Air and Airs Perry their deep sympathy in their recent bereavement. Seconded by Air Keenan and carried in silence members standing. balance sheet. The Auditor-General wrote forwarding the balance sheet for the year ended 31st .March. 1927, duly certified to as correct. It was resolved that the balance sheet ho received and the Chairman lie authorised to sign same as settled.

The tender of AA'. E. Richards lor printing same was accepted.

Correspondence was read from the Secretary to the Governor-General notifying proposed visit to Hokrtika and a later telegram (received on Saturday) regretting that owing to the illness of bis Excellency the proposed visit bad to be cancelled. The telegrams wore received and the action of the Deputy-Ala,vor in sending a telegram expressing regret at the illness of his Excellency and hoping for his speedy recovery, was approved. HOX. AAfERY’S VISIT. Telegrams were read from the lion ■T. G. Coates notifying in connection with the tour of Hon. E. S. Aniery, Under-Seeretarv of State for the Colonies, that Hon Aniery and party would arrive in Hokitika from Ross by train on Monday, December 12Ui. at 12.3(1 p.m., and would leave again ut 2.30 p.m.. when the visitor would he pleased lo meet the general ptib-

Aforpeth), were present in addition to members of the Council to discuss what action should be taken in connection with the coining visit, of the distinguished member of the British Cabinet. It, was further resolved that an endeavour he made to have the arrival at Hokitika made by 11.30 a.m,, instead of 12.30 p.m. so as to give more time for a public funelion, and if this were possible that Hon. Aniery he asked to give a public address immediately on arrival for an hour ami that then alter lunch they would have a lit tb* time to themselves and depart at 2.30 p.m.

It, was stated that arrangements had been made on behalf of the party fir a lunch at. Keller's Hotel. If was res lived that a public luncheon he offered to the visitors.

It was further resolved that the address take place in the Princess Theatre, children under their teachers to T-e specially catered for by resolving the front downstairs seats.
