EXPLOSION IN STEAMER. THE CUMBERLAND BEACHED MELBOURNE, July 9. Th© Navy office anbunces the steamship Cumberland was severely damaged by explosions in the hold and ha to be beached at Gabo Island. If fine weather continues there is a chance of saving the vessel. The Cumberland of 8993 tons left Sydney for England on Thursday and the explosions occurred on Friday morning. No lives wer© lost.
