JUNIOR REP. MATCH.
WELLINGTON v. CANTERBURY.
CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 2. The first match between the junior representatives of Wellington and Canterbury for the Brabin Shield finished to-day. It provided as exciting a finish as the donor (Mr L. J. Brabin) could have wished to see. Requiring 220 to win on the second innings, Canterbury made a great effort to retrieve victory. Twelve runs were wanted when the last over was commenced just before 6 p.m., but Mcßeath, who, with Logic, made a splendid last wicket stand, had the misfortune to be caught out by Burt off the last ball of the last over, Wellington thus winning the match by four runs amidst great excitement.
