PEKIN, Dec. 28. Waichopu sent notes to the Minister* of the eight Powers' signatories to the protocol of 1901 refusing to accede to the French demand for payment of the Boxer indemnity in gold. According to a message from Hongkong, the British steamer Hy&tanga, going to Swatow from Hongkong, was attacked by pirates last night.— Renter.
