(by tei/Egrafb —prksb tssoniATirw.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 11. A ret), match between Oaifterhury and Wellington was played to-day before 6000 spectators. Canterbury won by 8 points to 6. The weather was showery and the ground sodden after recent rains.
Early in the game Brown ICanterbtiry) intercepted, cleverly rah to the full-back, and passed to Ford, who scored under the posts. Brown converted. The visiting pack appeared slightly superior in loose and tight play, but the wind was against them. Wellington then became aggressive. From a penalty for an illegal tackle Mark Nicholls (Wellington) kicked a good goal. Ford became prominent in heady t>lay, which elicited applause. St. George and Ford staved off a strong Wellington attack. Then a short punt by Koberts gained ground,
and Porter (Wellington) scared, Malcolm failing with the kick. The second spell was well contested. Ford secured, and cleverly beating two men, scored. The try was not converted. Canterbury were attacking most of the spell.
