A FINE DISPLAY
Telegraph.^Special.Reporter. > AUCKLAND, Aug. la. The very keenest interest was taken in the match between New Plymouth Boys'. High School and .Auckland Grammar School, which took place oh Satur. day afternoon, in the presence of a crowd of about 8000 people. New Plymouth kicked off, and play was even for a while, with a slight adv.an to New Plymouth; but Auckland forwards used their weight and pace and got right to the line, and had New Plymouth penned there for several minutes till Petty relieved with a fine kick, and the whites were up-field to Auckland territory. Eaves turned his side's play into remarkably fine dribbling, and keeping up the pressure they continued to attack; but down came Grammar forwards and, operting up the play, the ball came to Hardley, who passed to McLaren, and a dangerous rush was checked by brilliant, tackling. Brown got away, but had not gone far before sure .tackling spoilt a promising movement, and back came Grammar. McLaren and Hutchinson showed fine passing, and the latter had shots at goal, which were fruitless. School went up-field again, and Eaves and McLaren made a good dash. Grammar retaliated with a fine dash, and a kick by Hutchinson took play to halfway. Then school made a forward dash, and from a scrum Eaves scored a fine try. Brown failed with the kick.
