THE CLOSING DAY.

The interesting work of the season formally closed on Saturday, when, in the afternoon, there was a competition —four-ball mixed foursome—to mark the event. The weather unfortunately was not very kind and this prevented the attendance of visitors, but there was a good muster of playing i members and an interesting afternoon. The match was played over twelve holes, and after a keen contest resulted in a win for Miss Caplen and C. Walker, who returned a good card by five up on the colonel. The next best was that of Mrs. Smith and Hay Mackenzie, three up. At the conclusion of play, members foregathered in the golf-house and after afternoon tea had been served by Mrs. Greig, the presentation of prizes was made by Mrs. S. C. Tonks. Mr. G. Ryan, president, in declaring the season closed, referred to the excellent year's play they had, and to the fart that the course had been and was now in better condition than they had ever experienced before. This was due largely to the kindness of the Messrs. Tonks, who had stocked the paddocks very heavily and checked the usuaL, rapid growth of the grass, which always takes place towards the end of the season. He referred also to the good work done by the caretaker (Mr. Greig), under the capable supervision of the captain and green committee. In conclusion, he said he felt sure he voiced the opinion of all in expressing acknowledgment of these good conditions and the hope that they would continue next season. He then ask-, ed Mrs. Tonks to present the prizes. The list was as follows:—
