OKAIAWA (11) v. OPUNAKE (3)
Considerable interest had been centred in the meeting of above teams on the Opunake ground on Saturday consequently there was a large attendance Ideal U -tball weather conditions prevailed, ccept that there was a slight south-v:"^terly . breeze. Within a few mini;ij , from the kick-off, Johnson (Oka.u.va) marked in a handy position, and was successful with his kick at goal! The Greens then put in a strong attack and kjpt pla yfor some minutes in the visito.V 25. The attack, however, was successfully defended, and Okaiawa again carried play to near the line. From a penalty, Roberts successfully piloted the leather between the posts*. For the remainder of the first spell play was fast, and at times several nice passing bouts among the local backs were almost successful. From a throw-in near the line, Macßeynolds secured, and with a smart dash secured the first try. The attempt to convert by K. Ifwerson failed, and the spell ended: ■ Okaiawa 6. Opunake 3. Upon resuming, Opunake, for some time more than held their own, but were not successful in crossing the line. The heavy and fit forwards of the visiting team were now beginning to show their superiority over our boys, who are certainly lacking in weight, and play was again carried to the home line, which was crossed successfully by Roberts. The try was converted. The Greens were now pressed continuously, and it looked as if a heavy score would be piled up against them. They, however, defended very doggedly, and in the ! last few minutes put in a strong attack > without result. The srame ended without further score. Mr Frey Guy refereed.
