At Waitara. the visiting t«am just managed to score an unexpected win over the doughty northerners. For tne mam part of the first spell play was pretty keen, both sides attacking in turn, until towards the end Patea got on a good passing rush, and L. Hunt scored near the corner. The kick failed .and the spell ended: Patea 3, Clifton In the second spell Clifton forced the pace; and St. George almost potted a goal. Clifton had most of the advantage till a Patea back relieved with a tine run. Clifton backs set u_> a strong attack, and Jones was crowded out at the corner. George failed to score fix.v a tairly easy penalty kick, and thou"h the home team tried hard they couid not penetrate the defence, and the whistle sounded for time without further addition to the scores.
