TUKAPA (19) v. WAIMATE (0)

Tukapa met and defeated Waiinate at the Manaia Domain on Saturday by 19 points to nil. The game, which was very hard a.nd fast, developed into a duel between the visiting backs and the local forwards. The Waimate forwards went in for spoiling tactics, and were fairly successful until near the finish of the game, when they were completely run off their legs. The local backs

were *iot too successful in finding the line, hence the strain fell on the for- i wards. The Tukapa backs gave a very ! good exhibition of passing, and some of their bouts were very attractive and effective. As soon as play started Tukapa gained possession of the ball, and the spectators witnessed some good clever passing. A good passing bout by Tukapa ended in passing forward. Badley relieved the pressure by marking. Tukapa came again, the ball changing hands clean and smart, finishing up on Waimate's goal line. F. Milner relieved with a good kick. Back came Tukapa with good passing, and Ennis romped over in a good position. Hooker converted. Tukapa 5, Waimate 0. About this time Birchall, the stay of the Waimate forwards, retired hurt, Gray taking his place. There was no further score in the first spell. Waimate forwards, playing a good hard game, kept the visitors in check. McKay, the Waimate halfback, was noticeable for good line kicking, and the local full-back stopped some dangerous rushes. The second spell opened with line kicking, Kingston gaining lots of ground. The next score was worked cleverly on the blind side. C. Brown passed to Stohr, who scored a good try but the kick failed. Tukapa 8, WaiI mate 0. McKay marked in a good ; position for Waimate, but failed at goal. Sutton came through with the ball at toe, but Tukapa backs proved too nippy. The play was now fast and open. Stohr followed up fast and just missed a try. A good passing rush by Tukapa resulted in Hooker scoring Tukapa 11, Waimate 0. Continuing" Waimate made a loose rush on to Tukapa goal line, but clever defence by , Tukapa relieved. Waimate came again and a scrum on the visitors' line looked dangerous. Tukapa again relieved, and, following up the whole length of the field, Hart picked up smartly and scored. No goal resulted. Tukapa 14 \\ aimate 0.
