The first prosecution under the-Act making it an offence to demand a bonus for the letting of a house was heard here, but fell through as the defend- . ant said he had not asked for a £5 J bonus, but for.£s rent paid in advanced* . The Magistrate said there was room for a mistake and • dismissed *the case, but had a conviction been obtained he would have inflicted a fine/of' £50.
