ANZAC DAY.
ARARATA'S OBSERVANCE.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Anzac Day at Ararata was marked by the holding in the Public Hall of a most impressive service in memory of those who made the supreme sacrifice. One of the largest congregations ever , seen at Ararata assembled at 2 p.m., and took part in a service which will long be remembered by those present. Mr Herbert, of Hawera, kindly came out to conduct the. service, which con-,-sisted of shortened evening prayer, with special psalms and lessons. Special hymns, viz., "Peace, perfect peace," "0 God our help in ages past,"; "Sun of my Soul,"* and a solo, "Kipling's Recessional," feelingly sung by Mr Aston. The accompaniments were rendered by Mrs Aston, L.R.A.M.During the service the. names of those who gave up their lives were read out, and the congregation stood'for a. few moments in . silent' thought for them. The names were: F. Bird, F. Close, J. Close, G. Clothier, E. Jensen, M.M., P. S. Livermore, W. Murray, W. C. Porter, O. Sanders, and A. Tarrant. Wreaths and crosses of laurels and flowers sent by Miss Ballantine, Mrs Robertson, Mrs Liggins, Mrs Aston, Mrs Larcom, Coral Lunberg> Margaret Wilson, Lisnal and Naomi Rayner, Terry and Peggy Rayner, Laurel Nickel, the senior boys and girls and the tiny tots of Ararata School, Lucy Forbes, Olive Lind, and others, were placed on and, round about the, isawiument in the school grounds. *: C,
