DANNEVIRKE CONTEST

The North Island brass band B grade contest was continued to-day, the military and two steps competition being decided in the afternoon in'the presence of a big crowd of spectators. Result: Marton, 251f points, 1; Dannevirke, 2ol£, 2; Palmerston North, 246J, 3; Hamilton,. 245£, 4; Temperance Guards (Auckland), 237£, 5; Hastings, 235£, 6; Auckland Defence, 2274,.7. At the annual meeting of, the North Island Brass Bands Association thanks were expressed to Dannevirke for taking up and running the contest at such short notice. Twenty-five bands are now affiliated. The balance-sheet showed a credit of £61 19s 3d. The election of officers resulted: President, Mr R. L. Cohen; vice-presidents, about 40, including Sir George Hunter, M.P., A. McNicol, M.P., and G. I. Anderson (Mayor of Dannevirke); treasurer, Mr J. J. Meuli (Wanganui); secretary, Mr F. G. Seddon (Wanganui); executive, Sergt .-Major Anderson - (Wanganui), Messrs Wansßbrough (Marton), Herd Wellington), Jupp (Wellington), Holben (Palmerston North), Trussell (Wanganui), Williamson (Auckland), McConnell (Napier), C.' Humphries (Wanganui), Cattley (New Plymouth). Applications were received from New Plymouth, Wellington, Whangarei, and Auckland for the next contest, and a Ballot between Wellington and Auckland resulted in Wellington being chosen. The advisability of holding one contest alternately in the North and South Islands was left to the executive to discuss and confer with the South Island Association.
