OWNERS' FJRM ATTITUDE.
MAY DISMISS MENf WHO "GO
SLOW."
(by telegraph—press 'Association ).' - v cHfeisTGHiTto; Aug.'so: ■";' Mr Wm. Pryor, secretary of tile New Zealand Coalmine owhere' Association has sent the following telegram to Mi' J. Arbuckle, Miners' Federation, Wellington : "Information received from various mining districts indicates that as the result of advice given by representatives of your Federation^ it has been decide,! to adopt a go-slow policy throughout the coal inines of New Zealand from next Monday. The adoption jof such ; a policy will still further de- } crease the coal supply arid seriously increase the price of coal to consumers. The New Zealand Coalmine Owners' Association will treat ;the adoption of such tactics by the miners as illegal and a serious injury to. the. commiinity, and may be compelled to take such action !as might result in the dismissal;of :• wbrkers who refuse or fail to maintain their normal output. My assbciatibn hope, I however, that wiser councils will prevail,, arid that the course proposed will not be adopted. It is suggestedl that I your Fedei-ation should take the necessary steps to have the dispute dealt with on ■ constitutional lines by having it i-eferred to the Conciliation Commissioners in the several industrial districts :to deal with."
