Mr Pearce, speaking in the House on Friday, said that the suspension of the repayment of mortgages was sending up the price of land, since money that should have been used to pay oft mortgages was used to buy land already bearing mortgages. The great increase in the price of land was a very serious evil. A Bill has been introduced to Parliament for the purpose of removing the prohibition of a Wellington-Hutt tramway line, now enforced in the interests of the railway.',. ■ ■'. .
