ANZAC DAY

There was a good attendance at the Town Hall, Eltham, yesterday celebrate Anzac Day. A procession was formed at Wilkinson's Hall, consisting of Boy Scouts, Cadets, Army Home Boys, Territorials and returned men,, and headed by a combined, band under Bandmaster Beesley, marched to the Hall. Or. G. W. Tayler, in the absence of the Mayor, presided, and he was supported by several councillors on the platform. In opening the proceedings the chairman said it was right and proper that Anzac Day should be celebrated in such a manner. The deeds of our boys would never be forgotten. A splendid address was delivered hy Adju.tant Scotney, who took for his subject, "Greater love hath no man than this, +bi.t he lay down his life for his friends." The Revs. Harris and Yarnell also assisted in the service.

MAGISTRATE'S COURT. The man Joseph Halliday, who had been remanded froni the previous Wednesday on a charge of failing to enrol, was convicted and sentenced to two weeks' imprisonment. Several charges against youths for ndmg bicycles without lights (which had been set down for hearing on the previous Magistrate's Court day) were brought forward. Five of the defendants (who did not appear) were fined from 5s to 10s each, with costs 7s in each case. Another defendant, who appeared and pleaded guilty, was convicted and discharged. WALTZING COMPETITION.

At the fancy dress ball on Wednesday a waltzing competition was held, Mrs and Miss Green being the winners.
