HAWERA (8) v. STRATFORD (1)
A match was played at Hawera on Thursday between Hawera and Stratford Clubs, and it resulted in a substantial win for the home team hy 8 goals to 1 goal. In fairness to the visitors it should be pointed out that their club has only recently been resuscitated; owing to so mr.ny of its members having gone to the war the club has been dormant. Hawera Club, on the other hand, has kept going by bringing along juniors. Stratford played a hard game, but the. splendid combination of the Hawera players told against the visitors. The match was contested in the best of spirit, and a return game will probably be played at Stratford in a month's time. Sage (2), Morrissey (2), Gemmell (2), McGuin- [ r;ess and Simoson scored for Hawera, while Smart "registered the goal for Stratford. Mr S. J. Catran refereed.
