PRESBYTERIAN LADIES' COLLEGE
• DUNEDIN, Oct. 7. At a meeting of the Dunedin Presbytery, the Rev. A. Whyte brought forward a proposal from Mrs Nisbet (widow of Dr. Nisbet) and Miss Ross, to assist in establishing a Presbyterian ladies' college in Dunedin. The-proposal was contained in a letter which stated:—"We offer ourselves and our establishment to the Presbyterian Church on such terms as would be deemed just and equitable." The establishment referred to is Girton College, with its home for boarders at "Archerfield." ' Mr Whyte said that these ladies were, prepared to place £3000 at the disposal of the church at 6 per cent., without any security except the honor of the church. The idea was to secure 20 acres or thereabouts near Dunedin, and to inaugurate a scheme that, when completed, would cost about £30,000, but could be begun with a subscription list of £5000. A committee was appointed to consider the offer and report to the Presbytery.
