DISESTABLISHMENT BILL
MR LLOYD GEORGE'S SPEECH. OPPOSITION PAPERS CRITICAL. *T CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. (Received May 18, 1 p.m.) LONDON, May 17. Opposition papers are critical of Mr Lloyd George in what they describe as a Limehouse speech, pointing out his ignorance of history, and his assaults on the rich aristocracy, which have nothing to do with transferring the property from the Welsh Church to the County Councils; also his argument that the Church property, prior to the Reformation, belonged to the Romanists, which was answered by Mr Asquith's contention that the Protestant Church has a legal continuance of the same. The Nonconformist Liberals have informed the Whips that though they voted for the Disestablishment Bill, they are opposed to the disendowment clauses, particularly the allocation of religious money bo specific secular purposes ■ t.T
