MOUNTED RIFLES' CAMP.

The local officers of the Permanent btatt stationed m Hawera are making preparations for the encamoment of the* 2nd West Coast Mounted rtilles, to ba held on the Waverley Racecourse from May 16 to 23. The strength of the reginient is expected to be between 40(1 and 500, and the companies comprising the regiment are: Alexandra (Wanganui), Wairoa (Waverley), Hawera, Opunake, North Taranaki, Stratford, and Waimarino. There is a great deal morework to be covered in a mounted camp than m an infantry, as the horses require a lot of attention to keep them nt The men will have plenty to do> while under canvas. The reveille will be. sounded at 6 a.m., followed at 6.30----a.m. by early morning stables; afterwards there will be physical drill . The men will then breakfast, after which there will be mounted parades and other duties until the luncheon hour. Similar work Mill be carried out in the afternoon.

The standing orders stipulate that no liquor is to be brought into the camp, but there -will be a "dry", canteen.

The Rev. R. Herman, chaplain to the regiment, will hold a service on Sunday, May 19. Sports will be held during the camp probably on Saturday, May 18, when prizes will be given for the best trained troop horse, and the best turned out man and horse. There will be a 100 yds, sprint for the Regimental Championship, and also mounted events.

The ladies of Waverley are arranging to entertain the regiment at a concert! The sanitary arrangements of the camp are being carefully attended to, as it is essential that the health of the men should be properly looked after. On May 16 a special train will leave as under: Waitara, 8.45 a.m.; Inglewood, 9.45 a.m.; Stratford, 10.35 a.m.,: Eltham, 11.2 a.m.; arriving at tibfe*} Waverley Racecourse at 1.53 p.mV^--while a train will leave Hawera at 1.15 p.m., and will arrive at Waverley at 3.10 p.m. t
