LOCAL GOVERNMENT BILL.

The Stratford Borough Council has passed the following resolutions in reference to the Local Government Bill: 1. That in the opinion of this Council the setting up of a Provincial Council is injurious to local government in Taranaki. ■■

2. That this Council is also of opinion that to expect a Council of men elected for the general purposes of the Provincial Council to exercise wisely all the functions contained in paragraph 10 of the memo to the Bill is to expect the unattainable, particularly with regard to Hospital and Charitable Aid* Public Health, Education, and Harbors. 3. That this Council is of opinion that boroughs should be exempt from the provisions of the Local Government Bill in that the proposed franchise gives them inequitable representation as Tbetween boroughs and counties, and that the possible grouping of boroughs with one representative will lead to an inadequate representation of boroughs' interests.
