THE PIRANI CASE. BY TELEGRAPH— PRESS ASSOCIATION. WELLINGTON, Oct. 29. Judge Cooper and Judge Chapman gave judgment to-day on a preliminary point raised in the appeal of F. Pirani against the judgment of Mr W. R. Haselden, S.M., on a claim for maintenance made by Mrs Pirani. The issue before the Court was whether a valid agreement for payment had been established. » v The Court was unable to adduce from the correspondence a sufficient agreement to pay £2 15s per week so long as the parties lived apart, and therefore proposed to take further evidence. Judge Cooper suggested that a settlement would be desirable in the interests of the children. - Counsel for Pirani stated that his client had always agreed to make an allowance, but objected to a binding agreement. The case was adjourned until Friday. PRISONERS SENTENCED. WELLINGTON, Oct. 29. In the Supreme Court to-day the Chief Justice sentenced the following prisoners: — Harry Neil, charged with theft of a dog, was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon. Te Raro Tokaiwa, for breaking and entering and theft, six , months' ' imprisonment. The case against Roger Ernest Powell and Raymond Saunders, who had pleaded guilty to the forgery and uttering of a Post Office Savings Bank withdrawal receipt, were sentenced, Powell to 12 months in the Invercargill gaol, and Saunders was admitted to probation for 12 months.
