NEW ZEALAND FARMERS' UNION.
HAWERA BRANCH MEETING.
The annual meeting of the Hawera branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union was held at the branch rooms on Saturday evening. The President (Mr J. Davidson) was in the chair, and Messrs Forbes, Spratt, Larcombe, Hicks, Baker, Buchanan, Wills, and Duckworth (secretary) were also present. J. A. Gilruth acknowledged the vote of thanks passed by the branch for his lecture on blackleg, etc. The Minister for Industries and Commerce forwarded copies of the evidence and report of the Extension of Commerce Committee, relative to the West of England steam service. — The copies were duly circulated amongst the members present. Mr Baker referred to the suggested discontinuance of the Ararata mail service, and urged that the postal department be written to asking that the service be continued in the interest of the settlers concerned. A resolution to that effect was carried. It was stated that the withdrawal of the service would inflict a direct injustice upon those interested. After the transaction of financial business the meeting rose.
