Whirlwind at Waitara East.

(FRQM OUR WAITARA CORRESPONDENT.)

This morning at G. 30 a whirlwind ran its course over a narrow belt of property at Waitara East. The first building struck was the stable of Mr T. Goddard, occapied by the racing hack Wizard. Tbe four sides of the stable were blown a few yards from tbe site, flat on tbe ground, in three pieces. Tbe corrugated iron sheets bad been blown at least 150 yards into Mr Marshall's garden. There was no flooring to the stable, and it is supposed the building must have been lifted clear of its inmate, who was quietly feeding in tbe next paddock. Mr Goddard's bouse, not 25 yards from tbe stable, escaped untouched. The roof of a fowl- house was thrown on to Mr Goddard's roof. A shed of Mr L Elliot's was dismantled. Mr Wickam, jnr's, window was emasbed to atoms. Iron sheets from hiß shed were blown 150 yards across tbe road to Mr Halloran's roof.

Mr ITallorac's palings were driven through a window into bis room, and two fine pine trees uprooted, and ia their turn smashed into his neighbour's (Mr James) window. Tbe next building wrecked was Mrs Thomas Bayly's threshing engine shed ; also mnob fenciDg belonging to the same lady. The last damage done was tbe total destruction of a large shed of Mr T. Joll'e. The distance run by the whirlwind is about half a mile.

While finishing these notes I hear of another slip on the Ina near New Plymouth. It is still raining and blowing here, and the only thing " fresh " in tbe township is in the river.

Mr A. H. Moore, OpunaKe, publishes a list of properties for sale or lease; aleo, grass seeds, etc., in stock.
