Church of England, Manaia.

(mOJI OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.)

About five years ago it was decided to bnild a ohurch for the Anglican congregation at Manaia and surrounding district, and, with that object in view, a subscription list was set on foot, wbioh realised the snm of .£7O. Opt of this fund a site was procured, situated at the corner of tbe Manaia road and the road leading to the school, at a cost of £15. This has been planted and otherwise improved. Subsequent efforts to raise funds have proved very sucoessful, until at the present time there are about £200 available for the work. Having this amount in hand, it has now been decided to prooeed witb tbe work at once, and consequently plans have been prepared by the diocesan architects, Meßsrs Clere and Richmond, ,of Wellington. The building, as shown on tbe plans, presents a very neat and handsome appearance. It will be fortyfive feet long by sixteen feet wide, and will have sitting accommodation for about eighty. Tbe door will open to tbe westward, and tbe entrance will be from the side street, the altar being nearest tbe Manaia road, at the eastern end of tbe building. At tbe entrance is a porch, and on the right side is to be the vestry, and opposite is to be the baptismal font. There is good accommodation provided for the choir and organ near the reading desk, which is situated on tbe north side of the church. The ohurch will be similar m appearance to the one recently ereoted in Otakeho, but somewhat larger, and is surmounted by a very neat and proportionate bell tower. When erected it will make a handsome addition to tbe arobiteoture of the place. Ie is estimated that about fifty pounds more tban is in hand and promised now will be required to complete it, bat onoe the work is in band a little extra effort will be made, and tbe amount will no donbt be eaeily raised, ns the members of tbe Anglican Chnrcb have been very liberal in assisting otber denominations, and they may reasonably expect to have tbe compliment returned.
