SYDNEY, October 14.
General Booth sailed for Auckland in the steamer Pukaki this morning. He whs accorded a great " send off." MELBOURNE, October 14.
The fatal character of the influenza is creating wide-spread alarm. The Rev. Mr, Rigg, President of the Wesleyan Conference and Mr. A. W. Musgrove, Secretary for Trade and Customs, have sucoumbed to the epidemic. Several other prominent citzens died today, and many more are in a critical condition. ADELAIDE, Ootober 14.
Information has been received that an expedition organised by Sir Thomas Elder to explore Central Australia has reached the coast of Western Australia all well. The expedition traversed 520 miles without finding water.
BRISBANE, October 14.
In the course of a lengthy speeoh tonight, Sir Thoe. Mcllwraith referred to the difference with the Bank of England, and stated that the Bank attached unnecessary importance to hia words, and, although be might have- used other words it could not alter the faots of the ease. The Bank, he declared, was only blustering, and even now had not fulfilled its promise to see the oolony out of its difficulty.
