The natives of Tologa Bay have taken possession of a six- roomed house, a large orchard, and 60 acres of land occupied by Henry Williams, who also claims to be owner in the Wharekaka block. Tbe position tb6 Maoris take up is tbat some of tboin, not having disposed of their shares in tbe block, and tbeir interests never having been defended, they, as part owners of tbe soil, have a perfect right to sqnat where they please. OHRISTOHUKOH, Ootober 14. Quarterly communication of Masonic Grand Lodge of New Zealand was held ror the first time in Cbristchnrch last night, B.W.G.M. Bro. Thompson presiding. Officers from North and South Islands, and a large number of visiting brethren were present. A considerable amount of routine business was transacted, including consideration of proposed conatitution. A vote of sympathy was accorded Bro. E. T. Gillon in bis Berious illness which prevented his attendance.
