A man named Portnolly Stephenson was wounded in the back by his younger brother, who was playing with a pistol, oblivious of the fact that it was capped and loaded. This Day. Mr. Wheeler, the manager of the Working Men's Club, died from injuries received in ejecting a man from the club room. An inquest will be held to-day. At the inquest on William Henry Mason, who fell off the Rivorhead wharf, a verdict of " Accidentally drownod while drunk " was returned. Paknra and Epiha have been committed for trial ; defence reserved. Bail was refused. DUNEDIN, This Day. Mr. Gillies, as secretary of the kaitangata Relief Fund, writes : — " The statements in the House relative to the fund being mismanaged are utterly incorrect. Not a penny has gone to any but sufferers." He cordially invites investigation. The U.S.S. Cos. new steamship Manipouri crossed the bar at G.40,a.m. TIMARU, This Day. The Harbor Board voted £300, being one year's salary, to the widow of tho late harbormaster ; and also resolved to at once order a powerful tug from home, to be specially built to meet the rpqnirements of the port, and in the meantime 1 to hire a steam launch. The report of the committee on the | wrecks and loss of life was to the effect, that it " arose from an unfortunate, but well meant attempt of Captain Mills to save the City of Perth, followed by a misconception on the part of Captain Macdonald, as to Captain Mills' reason for going off, caused by the miscarriage of a message sent him by Captain Mills ; and that it further appeared that the immediate cause of loss of life was the upsetting of the third boat, through , handling."
