[per reuter's agency.J SYDNEY, June 7. The local branch of the Compoi j D'Escompte De Paris was broken into last night by burglars. They did not, however, succeed in obtaining any money or valuables. June 8. The Ascot Cup to-day, resulted as follows :— Foxhall, 1 f Faugh-a-ballagh, 2 ; Petronel, 3. MELBOURNE, This Day. The matter of the address to the Irish people, signed by Messrs. Longinore, Duffy, Brophy, O'Callaghan, and Toohey, was again under discussion in the Legislative Assembly last night, when an animated debate took place on the motion introduced by Mr. Francis expressing disapproval of the address, and accepting the assurance of the signers of their loyalty to the Queen, and avowing the same on behalf of the whole House. After a lengthy discussion, and the rejection of an amendment by Mr. Berry, it was resolved that an address should be sent to Mr. Gladstone approving of his Irish policy. Mr. Francis' motion was carried by 37 to 24 votes.
