LONDON, February 27.

At a meeting of Liberal members today to consider the action of the House of Lords in appointing a committee to inquire into the workiugj of the Irish JLautl Act, Mr. Gladstone declared that he would no} allow anything to be done to impair the provisions of that measure. The meeting expressed its unanimous approval of the Premier's decision.

The House of Commons by a large majority carried Mr. Gladstone's motion, setting forth that the proposed inquiry by a Select Committee of the House of Lords into the working of the Irish Land Act was untimely, would defeat the operation of that measure, and prove injurious to good government in Ireland.

In the House of Commons this evouing, after the postpoue"meut of the Orders of the Day had been agreed to, Mr. Gladstone brought on the motion of which he gave notice on the 20th inst., nnd which takes the form of a message to the House of Lords, dissentiug in terms already telegraphed iroin its action in appointing a select committee to inquire into the working of the Irish Laud Act. The Premier made a lengthy speech in support of the motion, and on resuming his seat, he was followed by E. Gibson Q.C. (Attorney-General for Ireland in the Beaconsfield Adminislrition,) who moved the previous question, and addressed the House In opposition to Mr. Gladstone's motion.
