AUCKLAND, Last Night.
On the passage of the Talkun, from Hamburg, an encounter took place between the mate and a seaman. The latter got forty-three days solitary confinement in irons, and was only released on the ship's arrival in Auckland. F. Marshall, the celebrated comedian, is expected here shortly, tinder engagement.
The Delias schooner, from Rarotonga, reports that a French warship is expected daily at Karatonga and the adjacent islands, to enter into negotiations with the native authorities as to annexing Harvey or Cook's group. A young Frenchwoman named Emily Duisire, lately arrested for stealing- kauri gum, and discharged, died in the hospital. Her husband came to the hospital, and died as her corpse was being removed for lurial.
WELLINGTON, Last Night. A proclamation in the Gazette fixes the shooting season in Hawera district from Ist May to 31st July, and the license fee to be 255.
At the Supreme Court, on Thursday, Whitelaw was found guilty of ill-treating a patient, and the Judge inflicted a fine of £50, or six weeks' imprisonment.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. report, under date London, the 19th July : — The wool market is unchanged. Up to date, 327,000 bales have arrived. The wheat market is quiet. The weather is favorable for Home crop. Adelaide is worth 48s. 6d., and New Zealand 475. 6d. per 4961b5. The tallow market is easier, stocks being heavy; best mutton is worth £36, and best beef £34t per ton. The leather market firm ; best sides are worth ll£d. CHEISTCHUBCH, Last Night.
The weather has affected the markets. There is nothing new worth quoting. The sou-wester still 'continues, and has been raging again all day, though not quite BO violently. Great complaints have been made about not running trains on the Waipawa extension, which has been finished for a year.
