WHAKAMAEA CONTRACTS.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE STAR.
Sib, — Having seen a letter in your issue of to-day, signed by Mr. W. Wallace, denying that he stated to me that the Ganes were mates with him in a tender which he sent to the Hawera Road Board for ploughing 1 and other work on roads at Wbakamara, I bes to say that he distinctly told me that the Ganes were mates with Mm in the tender, but they being on the Eoad Board the Ganes could not appear on the tender as partners. And further, that the penalty would not be inflicted if the job was~gt)t by him. This conversation had reference to the first time tenders were called for the work. I may further state that I can refer Mr. Wallace to at least one other settler in Whakamara whom he told that Mr. F. J. Gane was mates with him. Mr.F. J.Gane and Mr. G. W. Gane are known throughout the district as the firm of Gane Brothers. — I am. &c J
ohn West.
