Including last detachment of Wellington unemployed, the total number now here is 137-. The railway formation is making rapid progress.
The furniture for the large hew Central Hotel has been purchased by the landlord, Mr. Owen McKittrick, in Wanganui. None of the furnishings or fittings have been bought from Patea merchants.
Messrs. Hallensfcein Bros, and Co., of Dunedin^ have taken premises from Mr. D. M. Warren, in Taranaki road, and will shortly open a branch drapery establishment.
Mr. Vm, Dixon has sold out his ironmongery business, store, and stock to Mr. E. W» Foreman, who will open on the Ist October as a general storekeeper) under the style of P. Mahoney and Co. Mr. Dixon takes up his old premises, and will continue the painting and paperhanging business.
At the E.M. Court, on Tuesday, Mr. W. L. Weiss, schoolmaster, Whenuakura, appeared to prosecute Hugh McLoughlin for assault. Mr. Hamerton appeared for Mr. Weiss; and Mr. Ward for the defence. After a lengthy hearing, the case Teas adjourned until Tuesday next.
