GREAT CRICKET MATCH.

THE AUSTRALIANS BEATEN BY FIVE WICKETS.

London, September 7.

The cricket-match, Australians versus All-England Eleven, was continued today. Alter the Home team had scored 420 runs, the Australians went in for their first innings, but only succeeded in scoring 149, of which total Boyle contributed 36, not out. The Australians then followed their innings, and when the stumps were drawn for the day, had put together 170 for the loss of six wickets ; Bonner, not out, 13; and Murdoch, not out, 79. McDonnell scored 48, when he was given out l.b.w. There was a large attendance at the match, and the weather continued fine throughout the day.

September 8.

The cricket match, Australians versus All-England Eleven, was resumed to-day at the Oval. The Australians continued their second innings, and made a splendid stand against the bowling of the Englishmen. The innings closed for 327 runs, Murdoch being not out for 153. Alexander scored 33, and was caught. The home team then requiring 57 runs to win the match, went in for their second innings. They obtained the required number with the loss of five wickets, and won the match by five wickets. There was again a large attendance, and great interest was taken in the contest. The weather throughout the three days' play was very fine.
