SPECIAL MEETING.
A special meeting was afterwards held, for the purpose of amending the by-laws in reference to slaughter-houses. After some discussion, the following resolution was proposed by Councillor Bridge, and seconded by Councillor Homer: — "The council may from- time to time appoint an inspector of slaughterhouses, who may demand from the owner or lessee of every slaughter-house the sum of one halfpenny for each and every head of small sattle, and twopence for each and every head of large cattle, slaughtered at any slaughter-house." The Chairman proposed as an amendment, " That the sum of 2s. 6d. per thousand read ss. per thousand." Councillor Milne seconded the amendment.
The motion was carried, Councillors Bridge, Hunter, Gane, and Partridge voting for it ; and Councillors Homer, Milne, and the Chairman against.
Councillors Brewer and Winks did not vote, as they were interested in boilingdown establishments, and the chairman pointed out that they would be liable to a penalty of £50 for voting.
The council then adjourned.
