PATEA AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL ASSOCIATION.
A meeting of the committee was held on Wednesday afternoon, at Messrs. Eyton and Pringle's office, Carlyle. Present — Messrs. Chapman (president), Mcßae, Wilson, Hunter, Peacock, Syme, Gibson, Pearce, Hearn, Powdrell, Hair, Gower, and Morton.
RESIGNATION OF MR. LIVINGSTON.
The following letter was read from Mr. Livingston : —"I was very much astonished, on reading in the Star, that there had been a meeting of the committee of the association, and to read that they have only now leased ground for show purposes. When Mr. W» Wilson gave me charge of the Registrar's Book, he told me that a large block had been leased from Mr. Rhodes' for 21 years, and that the show was to be held permanently there. Under that impression I succeeded in inducing the most of the Hawera men to become members along with niyself. When a hitch did occur about Rhodes's ground, you should have sent a notification to us here, so that we would not be misled. Another mistake you have made is to go on "with the business of the society without inviting one or two of the Hawera members to be present, so as to have a voice in the matter, seeing that about onehalf of the members belong to this place. It seems +o me that the management is to be totally in the hands of the members in and south of Carlyle, and it is only our money that is wanted. I now enclose you my cheque, and ask you to accept my resignation from this date. — I am, &c, " James Livingston.
" P.S. — I am going to draw the attention of other members here to the action of the committee — elected by whom we know not.
"J. L."
Mr. W. Wilson moved, and Mr. W. Gower seconded — " That the secretary write to Mr. Livingston, informing him that at the time Mr. Wilson canvassed in Hawera for new members, tbat it was supposed by the president of the Association that the land owned by the late Mr. W. B. Rhodes was secured to the Association. The negotiations having fallen through, the committee (elected by the members of the Association at that date) took steps to carry out the statement made by Mr. Wilson to the Hawera settlers, tbat the show was to be permanently fixed at Carlyle ; and that if Mr. Livingston be not satisfied with this explanation, his subscription shall be returned ; but the committee hope that this explanation will satisfy him, and that he will re-con-sider his decision."
It was understood that the secretary should also write to Mr. Livingston, asking the Hawera settlers to nominate two members on the committee.
PROGRAMME FOR THE SHOW.
The committee then proceeded to consider the programme. The classes will, in many instances, be the same as last year, but there will be more prizes at next show. A number of special prizes have been given, and several more have been promised. Those who wish to have their names inserted in the catalogue would do well to forward any special prizes they intend giving as soon as possible.
