Melbourne, Friday. The debate on the Payment of Members Bill takes place on the 7th June. A good many laborers employed at Fisherman's Bend have been discharged, pending Parliamentary sanction being given to carrying out the Yarra scheme. The steamer Taramung, which is intended for the colonial trade, has arrived here from England.
A caucus of members of the Opposition has been held, at which it was resolved to hold a mass meeting in conjunction with the Reform League, in order to condemn Mr. Service's Bill for the reform of the Constitution, now before the Assembly.
Adelaide, Friday.
The South Australian Parliament was opened yesterday. The Governor's speech announced, amongst other things, that a Bill would be introduced for the amendment of the Constitution.
The Orient Steam Navigation Company's Cotopaxi has arrived, from Plymouth.
Sydney, Friday. ' A conference between the delegates and strikers among the Newcastle coal miners has esulted in all hopes of settlement being dispelled. The strikers are determined to persist till th y obtain their own terms.
