OBITUARY

MR. .1. W. LIST

Mr. J. W. List, whose dealli oc-

curred on May 30, was one of the old identities of the Hutt Valley. Mr. List was 69 years of age and bad spent the greater portion of bis life in the Hutt Valley except tor a brief period when lie took lip farming pursuits at Otaki. About 38 years ago be was a member of the Petone Borough Council, remaining in oflice for several years, being senior councillor and deputyMayor. He displayed an active interest in local affairs and in the betterment of the Borough, being at the same time a member of the Gas Works Committee, Hutt Park Committee, secretary of the Petone District High School, secretary of the St. John Ambulance from its inception, secretary of the Druids Lodge, Petone Navals, and Gear Company Fire Brigade, His brother, Mr, T. C. List, who predeceased him, was one of tin* original members of the staff of the Hutt and Petone Chronicle over aft years ago. Of late Mr. List lias been a wellknown figure at the Wellington Trotting Club, where he was employed until bis health compelled him to relinquish bis duties twelve months ago. Mr. List is survived by four sons. Mr. S. D. List and Mr. Win, List. Lower Hutt, Mr. C. 11. List. Timarit, and Mr. S. J. List, Melbourne, Australia.
