The Mayor and Mayoress of Lower Hutt, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Andrews, were among the guests at a reception held in the lounge of the Waterloo Hotel, Wellington, on Thursday, in honour of China's national day. There were 160 guests, who were j received by Mrs. Wang Feng, wife of the Consul-General of the Republic of China. » * * The Mayor, Mr. J. W. Andrews, and Cr. E. P. Hay, have been appointed to represent the Lower Hutt City Council at the Municipal Conference to be held at Rotorua in March. * * . • The Right Rev. H. St. Barbe Hoi-' land, formerly Bishop of Wellington, left for England last week to take up his new appointment as Bishop of Norwich. * * # Councillor F. S. Hewer, chairman of the reserves committee, and the Superintendent of Reserves will represent the Lower Hutt City Council at the conference of chairmen of reserves committees and park superintendents to le held at Hastings from February *; to 7. * * • Mr. H. G. G. Gyde, sub-account-ant of the Wellington branch of the Bank of Au.3'.*a asia, has been appointed manager of the newly-open-ed Lower Hutt branch. * * * Mr. G. A. Blundell, of Lower Hutt, has been elected a member of the committee of the New Zealand Real Estate Institute. * * • Councillor F. K. London, of the Petone Borough Council, has been elected to represent local bodies on the Hutt Valley Memorial Technical College Board for the ensuing three years. * * * Mr. H. B. Thompson, of the New Zealand Standards Institute, has been appointed to the staff of the Lower Hutt City Council as ''committee clerk. He was welcomed to Monday night's meeting of the 1 Council. * * * A motion of. condolence with the relatives of the late Mr. Arthur Hall was passed at Monday night's meeting of the Lower Hutt City Council.
