TRIBUTE TO LONDONERS
DOMINION LOCAL BODIES The Municipal Association of New Zealand asked the Lower Hutt City Council at its last meeting whether it would subscribe for a memorial to provide some fitting tribute to the courage and fortitude of Londoners during the war. The suggestion has been made that the Lord Mayor of London should be approached and asked whether it would be possible to have the bare structure of a room in the Guildhall panelled and furnished with tables and chairs in New Zealand materials. The idea would be to have a memorial plaque inscribed ' with a suitable tribute from the New. Zealand'local bodies to the local bodies in London. The room could be either a committee room or a waiting room, which .could be appropriately named to connect it with New Zealand. City Council Grants £95 The City Council, at Monday night's meeting, decided to make a grant towards the proposal. The Mayor said that the matter had been taken up enthusiastically by local bodies throughout New Zealand. Lower' Hutt's contribution would be £95.
